Do Dubai's Discount Apps Actually Save You Money?
Best Discount Apps in Dubai 2026: Are They Worth the Money?
Is the Entertainer worth it? What about Privilee or Smiles? A 2026 look at what Dubai's discount apps cost, what their terms say, and how to find break-even.
Buy the Entertainer today and it expires on 30 December. You'll pay AED 395 for it — the same price as someone who bought in January and got twelve months where you get four.
It's in the terms. It isn't hidden. Almost nobody checks before paying, which is more or less how memberships work here: sold on the size of the catalogue, judged a year later on how many times you actually opened the app.
Three of these dominate the conversation in Dubai. There's a fourth option that beats all of them for most people and costs nothing extra, and we'll come to it.
The Entertainer: AED 395, and buy it in January
Two-for-one, weighted heavily toward dining, with spa, leisure and hotel offers attached. The UAE membership is AED 395 according to the company's support documentation, and the GCC version — six Gulf countries plus Singapore — is AED 545.
Break-even is lower than people assume. A main course at the sort of place you'd actually book runs AED 100 to 120, so a single redemption covers a quarter of the fee. Four or five and you're square. Anyone eating out weekly with a partner gets there by February.
What kills it isn't the maths. Offers are single-use per merchant rather than per outlet, which the Entertainer states plainly — redeem at Dubai Hills and it's gone at Marina too. So you end up choosing restaurants to suit the app. Some people enjoy that. It's a decent excuse to try somewhere new. Others get tired of it around March and stop opening it, and that's where most unused memberships go.
Disclosure: DiscGo is an Entertainer affiliate and our code is SAIMA10. We may earn a commission on signups through it. It doesn't change your price, and it hasn't changed anything above.
Privilee: from AED 579 a month, and don't start in May
Different product entirely. Privilee sells access rather than discounts — unlimited entry to beach clubs, pools and gyms across the UAE, with partner discounts at restaurants and spas on top. It starts around AED 579 a month.
People compare it to the Entertainer constantly and the comparison doesn't hold. Privilee replaces day passes and a gym contract. The Entertainer takes money off dinner. If you're choosing between them, you're really choosing between two different habits.
Test it by subtraction rather than addition. Open the app, pick the two or three venues you'd genuinely use, look up what each charges for a walk-in day pass, then be honest about frequency. Weekly and it clears comfortably. Twice a month, November to March, and it doesn't.
One piece of timing advice: don't start in May. July and August make outdoor venues unusable and half of Dubai is away. October is the month to sign up.
Smiles: free, so just have it
Smiles is e&'s rewards app and the recurring misconception is that you need an e& line. You don't — registration takes a UAE number, an international number or an e& account.
Points come from e& spend, from ordering inside the app, and from Smiles co-branded cards, then convert into cash or discount vouchers at what e& puts at 3,000-plus partner outlets. They're valid for 24 months. If you downloaded this during some promotion in 2023 and haven't opened it since, go and look at the balance before it evaporates.
The paid tier, Smiles Unlimited, is AED 29 a month with a 14-day trial. Free delivery above AED 30 on food and AED 50 on groceries, unlimited buy-one-get-one voucher downloads, no service fees on home services. Delivery in the UAE tends to run AED 5 to 15 an order, so two or three orders a week through Smiles pays for it. One order a fortnight and it doesn't. Use the trial without changing your habits and you'll know.
The one you're already paying for
Now the fourth option, which is the one almost everybody skips.
Your bank card already has a dining, cinema and fuel programme attached, and you're funding it through the annual fee whether you touch it or not. Emirates NBD, Mashreq, ADCB, FAB, HSBC, Citi, Standard Chartered, CBD, RAKBank — all of them publish something. Cinema alone is routinely 50% off or buy-one-get-one, capped at two to four tickets a month depending on your tier.
The offers aren't hard to find. They're four taps into your banking app, in a section most people open once when the card arrives and never again. Nothing pings you at the till. So they expire, the fee gets charged, and everyone carries on.
Government and employer schemes behave the same way. ESAAD, Dubai Police's card, has one of the widest catalogues in the emirate and now covers Golden Visa holders. Fazaa reaches government staff, registered private-sector employers and other approved categories, though approval isn't automatic. And a lot of UAE companies run a corporate benefits scheme that nobody in the office has ever opened. Ask HR.
How to actually decide
Count last month. How many times did you eat out with someone else, use a pool or a gym, order delivery, go to the cinema? Put a number on what you paid.
Then add up what your bank card, employer, government card and airline scheme already cover — before you spend anything new. That's the step people skip, and it's why they end up buying coverage they already had.
Only after that does a paid membership become a real decision rather than an optimistic one.
The bit none of them solve
Say you do all of the above and end up holding six programmes. Bank card, airline scheme, mall app, ESAAD, Smiles, and a paid membership you're determined to use this year.
You're now standing outside a restaurant in JLT with six apps and about thirty seconds of patience. Nobody checks six apps. You pay full price and find out two days later that one of them had 30% off.
That's the problem DiscGo was built for. It pulls offers from 35-plus bank, membership and government programmes into one place — over 145,000 offers across 24,000 UAE locations — and shows you only the ones attached to programmes you actually hold. No card numbers, no banking logins, just which memberships are yours. It's free on iOS and Android.
Check what you've already paid for before you pay for anything else.
